Yeah! None of the other obstacles have an effect on you, plus you can run into people and knock them aside, too!

Yeah, this is a pretty standard loop, but they spice it up with all kinds of different locations and stuff.

Naturally, it's the toughest stage in the game, too!

Starting off with a challenge, huh? Well, I’m not about to back down.

[ he doesn’t play sports for nothin’!!! ]

When you end up in lower ranks, you'll get better items to help boost you back at least!

But he selects the stage and prepares to go! He, of course, knows exactly when to press A so he gets a starting boost, too.]

[ deto ends up somewhere in the middle at first. inevitably, he veers right off the edge of the very first sharp turn and plummets into the abyss

and to think, once upon a time yoshi was worried about him dying in-game ]

[Fortunately, he's immediately fished up by a Lakitu, so his character does not in fact perish.

He does however take a long time to be set back on the track.]

Maybe you'll get a blue shell? Those instantly take out whoever's in first!

[Which is not currently Yoshi... yet. He's up in third at the moment.]

[ even though his lips are set in a grim line when he’s fished into last place, he doesn’t complain as he rejoins the race ]

[ the next box he hits isn’t a blue shell, but he does get the green ones. he fires all three and only misses one. damnit, next time he’ll hit with all three. slowly he’s inching back toward the middle of the pack ]

It targets first place, but it's got an AOE. If there are others close by, they can get hit too.

[His own boxes are mostly giving him bananas and green shells, but he's making use of them by slipping up computer drivers close behind, or taking shots at the ones ahead.]

Ah, but it’s not something you can just plan for ‘cause there’s no guarantee you’ll get it. So there’s always gotta be a back-up plan. Or three, probably.

[ somehow he manages to shoulder a computer over the side, but then he’s immediately handicapped by granny drifting along the next sharp curve ]

It also takes some time for the blue shell to move to the front of the pack, so ranks might have switched around by then.

[He's climbing, though, passing the computer in second place and deftly avoiding driving off the edge.]

[ yoshi sure is close to winning. if deto were just a doting boyfriend, he might even entertain the thought of using the blue shell to help yoshi out. but he’s competitive and yoshi can definitely win on his own obviously. would be no fun for both of them if he didn’t respect the sport that is cartoon characters racing over banana peels

which he almost does, frighteningly close to falling off again as he dodges. his next box gives him some red shells. two racers are knocked to the side, one of them getting hit twice whoops ]

What do we get for winning? A kiss?
