in the meantime, he needs to maintain the momentum, close the gap - and use the computer racers to his advantage. after all, yoshi has just become public enemy number one by slipping into first ]

[He maintains speed well on tricky corners and rail-less track, smashing into another box to get a set of three green shells which, while fairly useless for attacking, make an excellent shield when he leaves them spinning around him.

[ hoping the other racers will use themselves as bait - and they do. maybe it’s a coincidence, but it seems to deto that the computers always roll the decent items. one of them fires a red shell yoshi’s way as something blue (?) and wild whizzes past him
