[He maintains speed well on tricky corners and rail-less track, smashing into another box to get a set of three green shells which, while fairly useless for attacking, make an excellent shield when he leaves them spinning around him.

[ hoping the other racers will use themselves as bait - and they do. maybe it’s a coincidence, but it seems to deto that the computers always roll the decent items. one of them fires a red shell yoshi’s way as something blue (?) and wild whizzes past him

but now that he’s in the front, it turns out the hardest part is paying attention to what’s happening behind him while maintaining speed and also catching item boxes. a trio of banana peels? he’ll take it. and rather than saving them for protection, he plops them out in a diagonal line behind him. his goal is to minimize free space on the track, but he almost flies off a sharp turn doing so - ack

… hey actually isn’t that a great strat? corners and curves are the hardest so if he clutters the area there with peels… ]
