[ hm. he leads yoshi around the corner as he thinks ]
Because of the game… probably? It kinda changed my perception on things. I’m not as strong or capable by myself, but I learned what it meant to fight with everyone by my side. At the same time, well, the game felt like it was trying to protect us from the reality of life. There’s probably more to it, but I haven’t thought about it too deeply.
I guess, but... a lot of the people who died in that world never came back in any form. The only people who did are the ones whose bodies in the real world had survived.
Harald's precious world didn't protect us from anything. The dead couldn't come back, and instead all of us were thrust into danger... some even being lost for good because of it.
...I think Harald's world was a lot scarier than the real one in all kinds of ways.
Fuck yeah, it was. [ yoshi’s absolutely right, of course ] But all of that… I dunno, I don’t want to fail at protecting what’s important to me like he did. And I also don’t want to assume that my protection is… needed? Eh, I’m making this overly complicated. It’s stupid.
I’ll always be on your side, no matter what word we use to describe it. I’ll treasure and support you.
[ up ahead there’s a signboard for a cafe with a cutesy doodle of tapioca tea, the tapioca balls smiling merrily. from the unassuming storefront, old and wooden and overshadowed by the modern buildings around it, it doesn’t look much like a cafe if not for the sign
deto nods ahead ]
That’s our first stop. Since we talked about trying it together.
[ he looks confused for a second before his expression clears. somehow, he’d forgotten that… he’d forgotten… ]
My friend took his girlfriend to a similar place near our school. He liked it, but she’s super picky, so she didn’t really.
[ it’s peaceful inside the cafe, notes of wood and tea permeating the air. the location and structure of the place makes it feel as if they’ve stepped into a space that belongs elsewhere. a handful of modest tables take up most of the shop, and the walls are lined with plants. due to the buildings surrounding it, the interior is nicely shaded - which, honestly is #1 reason why deto picked this place for yoshi. #2 reason is it’s kind of a hole in the wall, so they won’t have to worry about it being too crowded ]

It just… doesn’t feel like we’re even with protect. You’re my partner for life, you know?

Speaking of running, how’s the walking so far?

[He certainly brightens when he notices that.]
I remember talking about it! Did you ever figure out why you knew about it?

How are you with tea? Caffeine?

[Bun.]

… How often do you stay up all night…
[ no wonder he has no stamina for anything but gaming ]
Maybe we should stay away from caffeine after all.

Besides, after walking around I'll probably be too tired to stay up very late.
